| Friday started out with Rodney and Bruce going to pick
Craig up from the airport, and Eric and I going down to prep and clean the
boat. We all met up for lunch and splashed the boat afterwards. Eric and I
went shopping and parked the trailer while the rest of the crew did a
brief survey of the lake and found our log cabin's dock. We met back at
the cabin and decided to run out on the lake for a while. Fate almost
caused major problems with the weekend in the form of a cracked sea
strainer, but a little chewing gum and Money mumbling like Strongbad saved
the day. Back on the lake we realized this thing is deep, really deep all
over. We ran around for a while and decided to stop and drift. We all swam
and generally just hung out and relaxed. One of Bruce's friends, his
girlfriend, and another friend met up with us and we all hung out until we
realized we were late for the opening ceremonies. We also skipped the
captains meeting and decided drinking beer would give us more insight into
the race instead. After rushing to the Casino night we found no parking,
so Rodney used all the skills learned on Pine Island and put the 4x4 on
some shrubs and lawn sprinklers in this posh resort area. We gambled using
the fake money provided and Rodney turned $ 5,000 into something like $
158,000. I instead chose to get drunk and lose all my money, funny how
monopoly parallels life. We left there and went to some restaurant/local
bar/crummy nightclub where some horrible band was playing. Money tried to
pick up on a girl (who in my opinion looked like she was struck in the
face with a 2x4 as a child) by dancing/standing with her. We thought he
had struck dirt (pun intended) until her 7 foot, 300 pound body builder
friend changed the plans. Here is Money and Lurch standing toe to toe in
the parking lot, I thought I was going to end up in a fight, but we
managed to pull them away. More than enough excitement for 1 day. |
